Urad dal is hulled Vigna mungo, black gram, urad bean, urid bean, minapapappu, mungo bean or black matpe bean.

Urad Dal is also extensively used in Indian culinary preparations. Urad Dal is one of the key ingredients in making idli and dosa batter Vada.  The dough is also used in making papadum.It is one of the greatest plant supplies of protein.
